"Finding Your Partners & Academic Sales for your Doc"

Outside the documentary film ecosystem are organization, philanthropists, brands, media, policymakers or foundations.  These partners can enrich your campaign in a number of different ways outside of monetary support, from influencing funders, to setting up non theatrical screenings, or lobbying the media.  Writer/Director Ramon Hamilton of Think Ten Media Group guides us through this process of finding your partners. Through their own knowledge, contacts and experiences, they can get your team access to decision makers and audiences which extend the campaign's reach, and amplify its voice.  In short, what they can offer is priceless.  Ramon will also be discussing the world of academic sales for your documentary.

Ramon HamiltonAward-Winning Writer/Director Ramon Hamilton, a 2016 National Black Programming Consortium Fellow, combines entertainment and storytelling to create change. His artistic and creative style centers around putting a human face to social issues through intimate, character-driven stories. Hamilton's latest feature film, "Smuggled," received 5 awards on the film festival circuit with 15 official selections, has screened at nearly 100 universities and colleges around the U.S. and abroad and was featured by multiple media outlets with ABC asserting, "Filmmaker Ramon Hamilton is on a mission to change how Americans think about immigration."

Hamilton's latest project is an interactive film series entitled, "The wHOLE," which highlights solitary confinement and mass incarceration. Hamilton's own experience with mass incarceration, coupled with his commitment to social justice, is what propels this project. The original short film, which depicted the torturous environment of solitary confinement, was featured at Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary Human Rights Conference and by NBC News. Hamilton is now working to bring this concept to life through a serialized approach that includes numerous interactive components as a means to further engage audiences, and to be a part of the movement that is reshaping the narrative of he we depict and perceive black men in America.
