A Digital Imaging Technician is a position that has evolved from a camera engineer. Originally, DITs would manage and troubleshoot cameras and color correct during shoots. They would then transfer tapes to the post-production suite.

Von ThomasVon Thomas is a colorist, photographer, cinematographer, digital information technician (DIT), and educator, bi-coastally based in New York and Los Angeles.

Von's career began as an advertising, fashion, and beauty photographer in the 1980s. His portfolio featured music album covers, fashion and product catalogues, as well as product advertising, including outdoor.

In the 1990s, Von got involved in digital imaging from its inception, integrating it with his photography workflow. In 2001, he founded Digital Tech NYC, a digital capture boutique, and quickly became the go-to firm for New York fashion, advertising, and editorial photographers needing an on-set digital lab solution. Von shared his digital capture expertise, lecturing at New York's PhotoPlus International Conference, International Center of Photography, and Photo Imaging and Design Expo. He developed his own branded Digital Tech Bootcamps, to great success.

In 2008 he transitioned to digital cinema, specializing in the RED digital camera system. He became an instructor for REDucation, RED's immersive hands-on training program. He then created his own proprietary ICA DIT dailies workshops, which he has presented in Vancouver, Dublin, Los Angeles, and New York. Currently holding ICA workshops through AbelCine and LMU.
