After an unexpected teenage pregnancy, Nereida is forced to marry her abusing boyfriend. While experiencing intimate partner violence from two relationships, her story tells the effects the abuse had on her and her three children. She is buoyed by her Christian faith, as she escapes the harmful relationships, focuses on education, and graduates from the Honors College of the University of Texas, San Antonio as the oldest graduate at 68 years of age. Now seventy-three, Nereida teaches 2nd graders full time, tutors at St. Philips College Writing Center and walks through doors God opens. Nereida's success over her adversities and experiencing her long deferred dream will encourage other women experiencing domestic violence to take steps towards a life of safety and personal satisfaction.
