In the past year, BADWest members have enjoyed several benefits.

We kicked off with a January presentation by renowned filmmaker Robert Greenwald at his BraveNew Films facility, where BAD members received insight on non-traditional funding and distribution tactics

March’s presentation was made by the Writers’ Guild Diversity Dept, where reps from the TV and film divisions covered the latest on protecting your work in new media/the Internet

May was our Day of Black Docs at AFI, an incredible event where we once again showcased 4 wonderful films in a day filled with amazing panels that included Tavis Smiley, Dr. Cornel West and Rev. Samuel Kyles. We also co-hosted a reception for Trinidadian- born documentary filmmaker Horace Ove at the Alitash Kebede Gallery.

June’s presentation was a production/editing “refresher” where producer Andre Campbell and Editor Lillian Benson gave tips on preparing for production and post-production.

July was devoted to students, where BADWest showcased winners of the 4th Annual Youth Film Festival on Social Justice, screened their work, and had an informative exchange with the young filmmakers. Then July 30th BADWest conducted a panel presentation of professional writer-directors in collaboration with the DGA and WGA for 22 film students from the Mahidol University in Thailand.

And our fall presentation by Von Thomas, Red Digital capture specialist, showcased the state-of-the-art Red Camera, the leading digital camera.
